When picking a wedding cinematographer there are do's and don’ts.
Here is a small list to help you make the right choice in capturing your special day on film.
• Experience – Making a wedding documentary takes skill, experience and attention to detail. How many years have they been in business and if they have any background in the commercial world of cinematography will make a big difference on the outcome of the film. There are no scripts and no retakes when capturing a wedding. This is where one’s experience becomes a real crucial element. Why is the video blurry? Is the audio distorted? Make sure to view a number of demos to make sure you're comfortable with their style and quality of work.
• Personality – A great wedding requires a coordinated effort by everyone involved. The cinematographer should be about you enjoying your day to the fullest. They are there for you, not the other way around. A great cinematographer will know how to capture your day while staying in the background and being very unobtrusive. It’s all about capturing the details without interrupting the flow of the day.
• Privacy - There’s nothing worse than feeling like your being stalked on your wedding day. You want a cinematographer that respects your personal space without shining a bright obnoxious light into your eyes. Less is always more in this area. You want to feel comfortable and not like you’re on show.
All the love, laughter, and excitement should be captured without overstepping your comfort zone.
• Content –The wedding day does go by so fast that it’s hard to remember half of what was said and done. This is the biggest reason we capture the day through photography and cinematography. A one hour video will document all the important elements of the day while being very entertaining for family and friend alike.
